Car crashes through apartment wall into bedroom

Carney – Baltimore County, MD – At 12:40am, Saturday July 3rd, a white Lexus GS430 flew past the end of Perring Parkway at Waltham Woods Rd. and slammed through the wall of an apartment in the ‘Kenilworth at Perring Park’ community. On the other side of that wall was a sleeping 3 year old girl. Although the parents of the girl had to move debris to get to their daughter, everyone walked away from the incident without injury. The driver exited the vehicle inside of the apartment. Witnesses say there were other occupants in the vehicle; however, they did not immediately identify themselves. Witnesses at the scene also say that the white Lexus was “flying” down Perring Parkway. There were no signs of skid marks on Perring Parkway or the grass from the road to the apartment building. The driver of the Lexus, a man in his mid-30’s or so, was heard saying, “the brakes gave out.” He was pulled aside and question by the police. He was not placed in handcuffs or arrested and appeared in good demeanor.

At 2:30am, the girl’s parents requested that the daughter be seen by paramedics still on scene because of a suspicious bump on her head. The paramedics and parents agreed that it was best to take the daughter to the hospital for evaluation. The mother and daughter were transported to GMBC by Station 10′s (Parkville) ambulance.

The car was removed from the apartment at approximately 2:55am after building inspectors and the fire marshal concluded their initial investigations to the structural integrity of the building — which was deemed unsafe and residents of that portion of the building (which houses 3 apartments, were evacuated) A large tow-truck, generally used for towing larger trucks, was used to pull the car out of the building by its rear tires. 2 winch lines were used – one of which was wrapped around a nearby tree to provide more leverage at a better angle.

There have been other accidents of cars over shooting the end of Perring Parkway – going straight rather than stopping and turning left or right onto Waltham Woods Rd. These incidents usually resulted in the cars ending up in the tress/bushes at the end of Perring Parkway.

NOLA & The Gulf – I want to go back

There is a serious tugging on my heart to go back down to New Orleans, and really, the Gulf area in general… To help with some relief (there is still a TON of work to do post-Katrina), to see what is really going on down there with re-building efforts and the BP oil spill disaster, and to bring home pictures.

Lower 9th Ward, NOLA – from when I volunteered during Spring Break in 2008.

Here’s an older blog entry I wrote about my experience on the aforementioned Spring Break trip.

iPhone 4

I was somehow eligible for an upgrade, so I flipped my 32GB 3GS on eBay and reserved a 32GB iPhone 4. Today, I stood in a 2 hour line at the Towson Apple Store for the launch of the iPhone 4. It went by in no-time. They were handing out free Chick-Fil-A sandwiches and drinks. A full review/my thoughts post will be coming after I use the phone for a whole week. I’ll post my thoughts in this entry. Check back later, friends. :) In the meantime, you can check out some initial pictures I took while un-boxing the phone and setting it up:

Kevin Rose to leave Diggnation & start a new tech/geek culture show ‘fforward’

Digg.com founder and interim CEO Kevin Rose, has confirmed that, after 5 years, he’s leaving Diggnation at the end of 2010. He has officially announced his new show ‘fforward‘. The show will be distributed by the internet-tv startup, Revision3.

Rose says that fforward will be “a weekly live streaming tech/geek culture show” and that while he will be the host, he will also have guests on for discussions and new tech product reviews.

Regarding Diggnation, Kevin Rose has been quoted as saying, “It’s been five years, Alex [Albrecht] and I still have fun doing the show, but I think we’re both ready for less travel and something new.”

“..ffoward is going to be unlike any show I’ve ever done, I’m excited to try some new ideas w/a live streaming audience. Diggnation will continue till the end of this year, we’ll be having a huge final live show sometime in November or December” says Rose.

(Kevin Rose quotes are sourced from an article Michael Arrington wrote for Tech Crunch and claims Kevin Rose made to him.)
