NOLA & The Gulf – I want to go back

There is a serious tugging on my heart to go back down to New Orleans, and really, the Gulf area in general… To help with some relief (there is still a TON of work to do post-Katrina), to see what is really going on down there with re-building efforts and the BP oil spill disaster, and to bring home pictures.

Lower 9th Ward, NOLA – from when I volunteered during Spring Break in 2008.

Here’s an older blog entry I wrote about my experience on the aforementioned Spring Break trip.

iPhone 4

I was somehow eligible for an upgrade, so I flipped my 32GB 3GS on eBay and reserved a 32GB iPhone 4. Today, I stood in a 2 hour line at the Towson Apple Store for the launch of the iPhone 4. It went by in no-time. They were handing out free Chick-Fil-A sandwiches and drinks. A full review/my thoughts post will be coming after I use the phone for a whole week. I’ll post my thoughts in this entry. Check back later, friends. :) In the meantime, you can check out some initial pictures I took while un-boxing the phone and setting it up:

A tasty chocolate drink

Note: For responsible 21+ adults!

This is one of my favorite drinks. I came up with this idea one night when I was in the mood for a chocolate drink. It’s kind of heavy, so it’s better as an “after dinner drink” or when you’re just going to be drinking 1 or 2 casual drinks. It also has a deceptively large amount of alcohol — and it just tastes like sweet sweet chocolate milk, so use sparingly and be careful! It’ll probably cost you $7 at a bar/restaurant. The 3 liqueurs will run you about $60. That sounds like a lot, but it will make you a lot of drinks — much more than $7 bar drinks will get you.

Fill a cup w/ 1/2 to 3/4ish milk & ice. Pour a shot of Original Kahlua, original Baileys, and plain Godiva — figure out how you like it and adjust the amounts accordingly. Those are just my amounts. STIR!! Don’t drink from a straw!!

Drink responsibly!

the ‘redesign’

.

it’s been due for some time now. it’s NOT nearly finished. lots of bits to tweak. the main page that shows all the recent posts is super squeezed and looks horrible… working on it..

overall, the site is more for showing off some of my photos & creativeness. it’s for myself and others to enjoy.

Are you doing what you think God is calling you to do?

Acknowledge that apart from Christ you can do nothing of eternal value. (Romans 7:18)

Pray that Christ would make you abound in love and equip you for every good work in doing what is pleasing to God. (Hebrews 13:21)

Trust in the promises of god to finish the work he has begun on your life. (Philippians 1:6)

Act in obedience to Gods Word.

Thank god for whatever good that comes out of your life.

“Boomerang”

Easier said than done… Being a Christian really screws up not liking others…

A boomerang in the hand of its skillful user, can return to the hand
from which it was thrown. However, for the one who does not handle it well,
if it comes back it could be injurious. The same can be true of our actions
toward others.

Solomon stated…
“A man who is KIND BENEFITS HIMSELF, but a CRUEL man HURTS HIMSELF.”
(Proverbs 11:17 ESV)

Does that not sound true to the principle of sowing and reaping Paul
addressed in his letter to the church at Galatia?
“(7) Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for WHATEVER ONE SOWS,
THAT WILL HE ALSO REAP. (8) For the one who sows to his own flesh will from
the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the
Spirit reap eternal life.” (Galatians 6:7-8 ESV)

Even when we treat others well, it does not always mean they will do the
same. However, how can we expect to be treated KINDLY by those to whom we
have not been KIND. In its general application to life the principle is
right. When we do harm to others we actually are bringing more harm to
ourselves. It boomerangs! It comes back at us!

There is a reward for KINDNESS. Being kind to others is doing a favor
for ourselves as well. Even if it is not always repaid in this realm, it
most certainly has its reward in the next. May we always be mindful of
handing out to others what we ourselves would desire to receive. That is the
action of always doing to others what we would have them do to us. (Matthew
7:12) Such is still a golden rule for living.
